1 year old!

These last couple of weeks have definitely put the exclamation mark on the end of a great year. We had a great little birthday party at Lake Miramar with friends and family. I made carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and Todd grilled some dogs and we had a blast celebrating. Wyatt's one year checkup was this week and he's 29 inches tall and weighs 18.5 lbs. The doc said she's actually a little concerned about his weight (despite the fact that T and I are both lil') so I'm supposed to feed him butter and other fatty things. A kid who's allowed extra ice cream, yay! :)

Wyatt started walking this week and is off and running (and falling). He crawls up the stairs when he's tired and ready to go to his room- hilarious! He kicks a full sized soccer ball, dribble style, while he's moving from one area to the other. He pushes a toy truck while standing, all around the downstairs... I think this will be moving outside when he's a little more stable and less wobbly. He still loves his books more than any toy- he'll pull them all down (focusing on one or two) and read to himself (baba ga hehe ga ba) usually forwards then upside down, he really is fun to watch play.

We're truly blessed to have such a healthy, happy baby boy. I can't love him enough.

Keeping busy

Whew! There's no time to just sit around when you have an 11 month old and friends/family who love to do stuff! We've been to the Wild Animal Park (rode the carousel for the first time) and the Zoo again this week.... The park (swinging & sliding for the first time!) and the Chicken Pie Restaurant today. Going to PB tomorrow for breakfast at The Broken Yolk with Andrea, then Ikea and some authentic Texas BBQ with Cim in the afternoon. JB's first soccer match is Saturday! Yowzers! I gotta take a break on Sunday.

Wyatt loves going out and flirts with all the girls, and he puts off his nap as long as possible so he doesn't miss anything. He's officially broken his mobile- the turny part broke a week ago but he pulled it into the crib and broke the arm thing today, so now it's just a music box attached to his crib. Whatever, he knows how to make it play the different sounds and he likes it so... until that breaks. :)

Need to go through his toys and clothes and get ready for the garage sale we're having on the 2nd. We'll be taking the bulk of the items over to Gwen's house on the 25th so I want to get this done soon. The 26th is Art Walk down in Little Italy and I'd love to take Wyatt to that so I hope we're not too pooped from prepping for the big sale...

new pics up and more to come soon...

Wyatt likes eggs!

Wyatt's been off his meals and sleep lately... he eats and he sleeps just not like he did schedule-wise. And then night before last, he slept through, ah. But then last night he didn't want to sleep at 2am. So, I guess we're starting the sleep program again. We'll see how tonight goes.

As far as eating goes, the last few days, he's been eating very minimal for breakfast and lunch (like 3-4 bites then all done fit comes on). He eats a huge dinner which I guess makes up for it but still... I thought maybe he was getting sick of the same (or variations thereof) bananas, cereal and yogurt for b-fast. But then lunch was the same and lunch is usually leftover dinner or what I'm having for lunch mixed with some jar food. So, I guess it's just timing. We tried an egg yolk this morning with a little bit of banana. He feeds himself cheerios all the time in his jumper and in the car so he's pretty good at feeding himself bananas. He loved the egg, just ate it up! Yay! :)

Wyatt's starting to point and reach a lot more... just last night, he heard Todd while we were getting ready for bedtime and he reached in the direction of the door even though he couldn't see him. That was so cool!

11 months...

Last night was the first night in about 3 weeks that I got 5 hours of straight sleep and Wyatt only woke once! We got to see Cindy and Phil a couple of times when they were in town this last weekend. Marge & Dennis came along with them too which is always fun. Wyatt loved being passed around to the grandparents and got plenty spoiled.

We had fun having the kiwi around- got to trade culture & lingo bits. He's off to Phoenix to hang with Tess and Wee again. Fun times had but it'll be nice to get back to some sense of normalcy.

Now, we're gearing up for a multi-family garage sale, Wyatt's first b-day party and my mom coming into town at the end of the month... but that's a few weeks off. The rest of this week is cleaning up the house, cleaning up some disc space so we can process some of the pics we've been taking, resting. Saturday, we're going to a friend's party for her 1 year old, then the Harp Fest in La Mesa to see dad.

Took Wyatt in for a quick check up last week, he's 18 pounds now! Wow, time's flying.

Touristy stuff

We've been to Phoenix and back... I'm not sure Wyatt's such a fan of road trips, next time we fly. But we had a great time while with Tess and Wee. Wyatt went swimming (for a little bit, it was pretty cold) and hung out by the beautiful pool. Angus the superpup was great with Wyatt. Tess and I caught up on movies and food and had fun while the boys went shooting, up at the cabin, with the EVE guys- UGGfest09. Todd and I brought a kiwi named Gareth back to SD and we've been showing him the sites. Balboa, beaches, Wild Animal Park, and the Zoo today... It's pretty interesting the culture differences and vocabulary. But it's been fun cooking and eating at the fun SoCal places as well as playing tour guide.

We had lunch with Phil and Cindy and Marge and Dennis Sunday. They swung through town for a bit before launching on a cruise then back later in the week for school board convention stuff. Looking forward to spending some time with them later in the week. :)

So, we're having fun but we're not really on any schedule lately... maybe we'll get back into it just in time for when my mom gets into town for her visit later in the month.

Worrisome parent stuff...

We went for Wyatt's third visit to the eye doctor to get his pressure and optic nerves checked and everything is mostly fine. The pressure in his eyes last time was L=18, R=28 and they chalked it up to being high (I guess around 10 is ok) because he was crying and squirming. Yesterday, his pressure was L=8 and R=28. And yes, he was screaming and arching and crying. It freakin' kills me having to hold him down while they pull apart his eyes and poke them with that reader thingie... yes, I called it a thingie- I'm no ophthalmologist so I don't know what it's called but it's the rubber tipped pressure reader thingie... and it sucks ass and anyone who tells me 'don't make him cry' while they're prodding him, just pisses me off. And when that same person doesn't check to see the thingie is actually on before poking, also really pisses me off. So yeah, that was even before we saw the doctor, an hour after our appointment time, nearing his dinner time, which really pissed Todd off.

Then the doc comes in and says he wants to make sure of the pressure. I think, hell yeah- YOU take the pressure and make sure it's right. But he has another idea since Wyatt's so upset by now... we can schedule time in the OR and with an anesthesiologist to be on hand and put him under a sedative to get a more accurate reading. What am I supposed to say to that? No? Of course we want to know what the pressure in his eyes are and make sure if he has glaucoma we treat it early on, but jeesh! Anesthesia!? So, I'm more freaked out about the whole anesthesia bit more than the glaucoma thing because none of the other symptoms are there but still. Todd's not worried about it and thinks I'm a little silly for being so freaked out but I am, so there. :)

Between the poking/prodding, the time change, and the fact he's been hella-teething this last week, I really feel bad for the guy. He had a pretty bad spot on his peep that hurt him so much he resorted to throwing full on fits when it was time to change his diapers. We got that fixed with a little nystatin... whew. But he's still hurting in his mouth and drooling, snotty and biting and just all around a bit pee wee. His appetite waned a bit this weekend but is back to normal.

He loves it when Todd or I wear woobies with strings so he can bite on them, that keeps him occupied more than any other toy we could dangle in front of him. That and water bottles, go figure. I'm hoping to get some 10 month pics up of him this weekend. We're really looking forward to our Phoenix trip this next week, definitely more pics then. Until then, I'll try not to worry about putting my son under but then again, I see it as one of the first of many times I get to worry about him and his health.

Almost 10 months old...

And full of mischief. Wyatt can pull his socks off, bang things together, ramble along like he's telling a story, and pull himself up to scootch around the furniture! He particularly likes pulling up on the dog, Fender is pretty patient and understanding of this phase I think. His crawling is better each day, he's more up on his knees and not so much dragging anymore. He's definitely teething more- he's had the two on the bottom since about 5 months but now he has 4 up top, they're about halfway out now. He's had the sniffles (just runny nose and drooling mostly) this weekend pretty bad.

We're looking forward to a busy next few weeks. We're going to be driving out to Phoenix to visit some friends I haven't seen in a few years and who haven't met Wyatt yet. A friend of Todd's is coming back with us to experience SoCal Suiter style for a week(?) or so. Then Todd's mom and step-dad and her best friend Marge and her hubby are coming out for a little over a week. We're totally looking forward to all the company! :)
