Lets get this out there from the start: everyone is always full of shit, and customer service is a joke.
We're having some work done on our wedding bands. Wy is getting a new, non nose picker, setting. And I'm just getting a new ring, since I'm getting fat. Well, we also have some other stuff appraised....so we took all of the goods to a place that was recommended. Very nice, friendly...we'll get right on that, no problem! ... that was 2 months ago. My ring came in, and it didn't fit. I may be getting a little tubby, but I did not go up an entire ring size in a month! So I took it back....and I've not heard from them since.
Wy's ring? She found a fitting she liked...1 month later, guy calls, say they can do the setting she wants, but we have to sign a waiver since they might break the diamond when they mount it. Excuse me? No. We'll find another setting. ... ... and nothing since. So they got a nice nastygram today. We'll see how it goes.
Next? Best Buy. Yes yes, don't buy there. But, frankly, they said all the right things. Cheap, free haul away, free install, etc. Turns out though, my definition of free differs from theirs. Free means, they'll drop it off and plug in the plug. BUT, if the installer actually has to, you know, INSTALL something, they charge you. In our case, our place was built in the '70's and, since this is CA, things are a bit odd. This is where it gets semi painful to be me.
Talked to sears people: oh, no. Dishwashers and stoves need to be hardwired. Its CA building code.
Talked to BB people: oh, no. Dishwashers and stoves need to be pluggable. Its CA building code.
Well? Which is it? Answer is....no one seems to know. And I'm not buying a book to find out. BUT, by reading the manufactures install pdfs....neither the dishwasher nor the range top support plugs. They _have_ to be hardwired. And ya'll wonder why I despise people....
Oh....Did I mention that the range opening is too small? Yeah, turns out the range is 30" wide. Our opening is 29 7/8. So I get to pay $150 to have a guy come down and grind the tile tomorrow. Then I get to pay BB install monkey $150 to rewire the range into the harness on friday. Could I do it myself? The wiring sure. Would I? No. Electricity can kill you. If I did electrical work for a living, I'd not have a problem with it. But, I don't. So I'll let someone that DOES do it for a living deal with it. And if they fuck it up, they'll be back to fix it. Repeatedly until its done right. $150 for 10 minutes work? I want that job. Er, no I don't. I'd have to deal with people, and move appliances. Besides, you know he's not making that. Or maybe he is just pocketing the cash and telling his employers that it was done by someone else. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Updates after this weekend....
